No royal beginnings for this Queen of Country Music. Dolly Parton’s birth in the backroom of a cabin along the banks of Tennessee’s Little Pigeon River was paid for with a bag of cornmeal. The 4th of 12 children would carve out her own identity as a singer, composer, movie actress, and entrepreneur. Parton has won 11 Grammies and 10 Country Music Awards along the way.

It began at age 6 with hymns sung in church and a homemade guitar. Today Dolly owns the Tennessee ‘Dollywood’ theme park, a dinner theater, water park, and stampede show. Known for her larger-than-life positive attitude, she has a wig for every day of the year and sleeps in full makeup. Her charitable foundation supports good causes, especially literacy. Despite dirt poor roots, Dolly Parton leaves a rich legacy.
